The Beale Band

This is a "gallery" of photos and documents of the Beale Band. It was formed in the early 1960's by QMC Bob Gainor. They played when the Beale was refueling, rearming, taking on stores and other high-line operations. Also, it sometimes played when entering port or in honor of other ships in its company. Its members changed from time to time because of transfers and discharges. I only wish we had some recordings of their "tunes". Otto E. is playing the sousaphone and Bob Hagspihl is on the trombone. Do you recognize anyone else. Please let us know.

DESFLOT 4

The following photos are from a book published c. 1960-1962 by COMDESFLOT 4. It is titled DESFLOT 4 (Destroyer Flotilla 4). At the time, Beale was an element of DESFLOT 4. The pics shown below are excerpts copied from the book using a camera. This explains why they are not cropped and a bit askew. The book was submitted by LTJG Ed Bales.
