A History of the Beale

The USS Beale has a very rich history beginning with her namesake, Lieutenant Edward Fitzgerald Beale and ending with her final decommissioning and being stricken off the Virginia Capes.

There were two U.S.S. Beale ships. Beale I was the DD-40, a coal burning “four piper”, a 740 ton Paulding Class destroyer. Beale II was the DD/DDE-471, a 2,100 ton Fletcher Class.
