On 1 November 1951, the BEALE was recommissioned as the DDE-471. Many changes were made to fit her out as an ASW ship of war. The most notable change was removal of 5"/38 gun mounts 53, 54 and 55 and the installation of Weapon ALFA, a state of the art launcher of "rocket like torpedoes".
